Windows Security or Ransomware Protection Warnings

Symptom

Windows Security warns that DU Meter is trying to make unauthorized changes to memory or controlled folders.

Cause

If DU Meter is configured to save periodic reports to a Windows-protected folder (such as Desktop or Documents), the Controlled Folder Access feature may block the operation.

Solution

Step 1: Check Report Save Location

Ensure periodic reports are not being saved to folders protected by Controlled Folder Access. You can change the report save location in DU Meter's settings.

Step 2: Check Windows Security Logs

  1. Open Windows Security from the Start Menu
  2. Go to Virus & threat protection
  3. Select Ransomware protection
  4. Check the logs/events to see exactly what was blocked

Step 3: Add DU Meter as an Exception (if needed)

If you want DU Meter to save reports to a protected folder, you can add it to the allowed apps list in Controlled Folder Access settings.

Note: The DU Meter Service itself does not require special folder write access. Warnings are typically related to the report file saving feature.
