Frequently Asked Questions

DU Meter 4.0 won't accept DU Meter 3.5 serial number.

Verify your DU Meter 4.0 upgrade eligibility and receive either a free registration or a discount coupon.

I want to upgrade my DU Meter to the latest version. Should I uninstall the previous version first?

It is not necessary to uninstall a previous version first. Simply download and install the latest release. It will automatically install over the top of the older version and overwrite it completely. If you uninstall first, all your program option changes and data transfer logs will be lost, and you will need to re-enter registration information again upon new installation.

I cannot find a German/French/Spanish version of DU Meter 4.0.

DU Meter 4.0 is available in English only right now. The localized versions will be offered at a later time, however anyone who buys a license to DU Meter 4.0 now, will be entitled to a free upgrade to any localized version of DU Meter 4.x when it is released.

Why DU Meter totals and my ISP (provider) totals disagree?

There could be several reasons. Here are the most common ones:

  • DU Meter totals are slightly less than your ISP's
Your ISP counts all bytes sent or received to you. However, some packets are completely lost in transit or delivered with errors. These packets cannot be counted by DU Meter. Moreover, if you have a firewall or router device, that device can and will drop some packets, so they are never delivered to your computer, therefore DU Meter won't count them.
  • DU Meter totals are larger than your ISP's
Your computer generates some broadcast traffic, which never leaves your local network. Even if your computer is connected only to your ISP via DSL or cable modem, broadcast traffic will still be generated, but it will never arrive to your ISP. Moreover, if you have other computers in your local network, communication with these computers will be accounted for by DU Meter but not by your upstream network provider.

How to use DU Meter Sidebar Gadget?

In order to use the sidebar gadget, you need to:

  1. Be running Windows Vista 32-bit.
  2. Have the Windows Sidebar running.
  3. Click on the little "+" in the Sidebar to add a new gadget to the sidebar, and select DU Meter from the list of available sidebars.
DU Meter 4.0 is compatible with Windows Vista 64-bit except that the sidebar gadget is unsupported at this time. We are planning such support in the future version. Moreover, DU Meter gadget is compatible only with Windows Sidebar, not with Google or any other sidebar application.
